Baltiysk- is also known by its German name Pillau. The town was closed to ordinary visitors for many years and even now foreign visitors must have a special permit to visit Baltysk. Today it is the biggest Russian naval base on the Baltic Sea and it boasts wide beautiful sandy beaches, famous old forts like Pillau fortress and other very interesting sights.
